Clare Island is the largest of the 365 islands in Clew Bay. Famous as the ancestral home of the legendary Pirate Queen Grace O’Malley (Granuaile), this vibrant island has a population of about 160 people.

Clare Island plays host to a number of festivals and events throughout the year – there’s something for everyone. Go on you know you want to!

There are plenty of activities to keep the whole family busy – one thing for sure you’ll never run out of things to do.

Once on Clare Island, there is so much to see– the island’s rich history, geological and biological landscape can be explored on foot, bike or by mini bus.

Clare Island offers high standard accommodation to suit every budget. From camping to high end retreats – we’ve got it covered.

As we are now in the off-season day-trippers are advised to bring  their own lunch. Tea/Coffee and confectionery can be purchased at the shop 3km from the quay. A mineral vending machine can be found at the heritage centre. Evening meals can be booked through accomodation providers upon request. Groups can be catered for by the sailor’s bar and the Community Centre if advanced notice is given.
