Apart from enjoying the landscape and water worlds of County Mayo, a huge number of people come to the Louisburgh area to fish river, lakes or the sea. Whether fly fishing, coarse fishing or sea fishing is your preference, Louisburgh offers the whole package within easy reach. Along the shoreline from Bertra beach to Thallabawn, there are 20 miles of white sandy beaches affording the shore fisherman ample opportunity to enjoy his choice of fishing and variety and species of fish to catch. Deep sea angling can also be arranged with boats going out from Westport.  


Louisburgh County Mayo - Fishing Rivers

The Bunowen River runs through Louisburgh, the Carrowniskey River is approx 5 miles south of the town and the Bundorragha and Errif rivers are both within easy reach.

          Spate River flowing into Lough Roonagh with a small outlet to the sea

          Fish Type: Salmon and Sea trout

          Season: Feb to September

          Methods: Fly dappling

Bundorragha River, Delphi 8 miles from Louisburgh County Mayo

          Flows into three lakes Doolough, Finlough and Glencullen

          Fish Type: Salmon, Sea Trout

          Season: February to September

          Methods: Fly, Spinning (lakes only)

          Permit required, (available from Delphi Fishery, Delphi Lodge, Bundorragha)

          Boat hire and Ghilly Service available.

Errif River, Leenane, 10 miles from Louisburgh County Mayo

          Spate river, depends on flood conditions for runs of fish.

          Fish Type: Salmon and trout

          Season: June to September

          Method: Fly, Worm, Spinning, Shrimping (latter three restricted)

          Permit required (available from Asleagh Lodge)
