Louisburgh is a small town on the western seaboard, in an area of great natural beauty. The area has a rich heritage in the traditional arts dating back through the ages with poets and musicians that feature in writings from the 1800’s and beyond. In the recent past and particularly since the inception of the annual Féile Chois Cuain, the traditional arts scene in Louisburgh has been particularly vibrant, with a host of home grown performers and an avid audience for the many fine performers who regularly visit.

Over more than two decades Féile Chois Cuain has earned an enviable reputation as one of Ireland’s premier traditional festivals with many of Ireland’s most revered performers returning to the festival year after year. Wonderful concerts, masterclasses from legends, lively sessions and a legendary warm welcome awaits all visitors to Féile Chois Cuain.

Unfortunately there will be no races this year 2023

The races were revived after a 28 year absence in 2010.

Now the strand caters for ten to twelve races. The majority of the races are filled with thoroughbreds under the auspices of the MHPRA along with some local races. These local ponies and non-thoroughbreds add some friendly competition to the day.

An entertaining day is to be had for all ages. Children are catered for with a variety of entertainment; whilst adults can place a bet, have a beverage and a bite while watching the races.

The Carrowniskey Races would like to extend their thanks to all their sponsors for their generosity in previous years and the up and coming 2019 Carrowniskey Races taking place on the 7th of July. 2019
